Repackaging For Less Weight

Once you've reduced what you are carrying down to only what you need, you may still be able to save many ounces (or even pounds) by repackaging what you carry in smaller containers. Things like sun screen, deet, water treatments and such often come in far larger containers than a typical backpacker will need for a single trip. Some techniques are listed below:

For re-usable items such as seasonings used for cooking a technique for Folding Straws into Containers is quite nifty and often of no cost.

For single use or pre-measured applications, Heat Sealing Straws for Containers works extremely well for sunscreen, sportslick and other items which would be too messy to repackage in a folded straw container. Again, there is usually no cost to the backpacker.
