About the BPL wiki
The BackpackingLight wiki is an online reference for lightweight backpacking and wilderness travel sponsored by BackpackingLight magazine. Content for the wiki is developed collaboratively by the BPL user community. The content on the BPL wiki is freely available to anyone on the web. To participate in developing or editing content, you must have a BPL user account and be logged in prior to editing any pages.

Content on the BPL Wiki
As stated above, the BackpackingLight wiki is an online reference. It is intended to be a source for information regarding people, places, trails, gear, technologies, food, techniques and other aspects of lightweight backpacking and wilderness travel. Following in the tradition of Wikipedia, here are some guidelines for types of content that are appropriate for this wiki. We expect the scope and depth of content to be user driven, but we will monitor the wiki for inappropriate content of various types.
Whenever possible, please cite the source of your material.
For help in formatting or editing the wiki, please use other articles in the same category as a template. Also, read the help page for editing the BPL wiki. But feel free to modify article structure to fit the needs of the article. Balance that with maintaining consistency in article format within a single category.
Content that is OK
- Factual information about the topic in question
- General consensus opinions when those opinions are only part of a larger reference article
- Descriptions of techniques or other practices used in the field
- User examples in categories defined to collect user information - recipes, for example
Content that is NOT OK
- Gear reviews
- Commentaries or opinion pieces
- Attack articles
- Copyrighted text or images, without the permission of the copyright holder. See copyright details.
Editing Help, Policies and Disputes

As a community project, all pages on the BPL wiki can be edited by any member. No one owns any page. The BPL editorial staff will be the final arbiter of content disputes and may edit or delete any page or content deemed inappropriate for whatever reason.
